PKI fundamentals (Agenda PKI Fundamentals)

This workshop for public key infrastructure (PKI) teaches the technical foundations, possible fields of application as well as organizational aspects of PKI.

The mechanisms and components of a PKI and typical applications will be presented that use digital certificates according X.509 standard for encryption, digital signatures or strong authentication. The legal and organisational aspects will be explained as well as possible implementation alternatives. Here, the pros and cons for implementing an internal PKI or usage of an external service provider are compared and you will learn about the value add of smart cards. You will learn the procedure of installing and configuring a Windows CA Server, the usage and customization of default Certificate Templates, Policy- and Exit-Modules and the integration of smart cards. One major subject are the different registration and enrollment methods.
