Overview - PDF-Gate Signer

What is PDF-Gate Verifier?
 PDF-Gate Verifier is used for the server based verification of PDF documents. Thus it is possible to integrate digital signatures seamless, cost effective and reliable with your business processes.

What does it offer?
 By using PDF signatures you can speed up your processes signaificantly, save costs and avoid media conversions. The integration with existing ERP, DMS, EDM/PDM systems and electronic archives is done via state-of-the-art interfaces. Thus, even high requirements can be met, like those which are defined in 21 CFR part 11 for pharma and medical equipment companies.

Why PDF signatures?
 The Portabe Document Format (PDF) is perfectly suited for using digital signatures for obliging transactions. The reliable display of what is to be signed (What You See is What You Sign) and the suitability as archival format are some of the most striking characteristics of PDF, aside from its large user base.
Digital signatures based on digital certificates issued by a PKI in PDF documents can be generated with Adobe® Acrobat® 7 or the freely available Adobe® Reader® 7.

What can PDF-Gate Verifier do?
 PDF-Gate Verifier verifies all digital signatures embedded within a PDF document and returns the result of the verification as a structured XML file, which optionally can be digitally signed with XML-DSig, for further processing. For each signature field the following criteria are verified:

  • Identity or role (eg. author, auditor, reviewer) of the corresponding signer

  • Validity and trust status of the signature certificate

  • Authenticity of the signature

  • Integrity of the signed PDF document

  • Changes between signed PDF revisions

  • Authorization of the signer for the signature field

Additionally, the compliance with signature workflow specifications and conformance with existing signature policies is verified. This way it is possible to implement a substitution rule, because the PDF-Gate Verifier also recognises PDF signatures as valid that were generated by one of the specified substitutes.

How to integrate PDF-Gate Verifier?
PDF-Gate Verifier supports common standards an therefore can be used together with many commercial trust center services or company PKIs, using smart cards or soft keys:

  •  X.509v3

  •  PKCS#7

  •  PKCS#12

  •  CRL check via HTTP and LDAP

  •  PDF beginning with Version 1.4 (Adobe Acrobat 5)

  •  XML (verification reports) and XML-DSig

PDF-Gate Verifier runs on:

  • Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server

  • Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003

Improvements in PDF-Gate Verifier 2.2:

  • Verification of compressed PDF documents is possible

  • Verification of changes in signed documents enhanced and made adjustable
